Phil Levin
Phil Levin earned the moniker “G Money” in 1994 due to his saggin’ jeans and his crisp, solid beat. Levin first met Terry White and Kevin James while attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1987. Phil was the drummer in the influential local act October’s Child and shared bills with the Modern Day Saints many a night. He was teamed up with John Pirruccello and for the next 10 years recorded and toured with him in Bucktown and later Yardsale (with James as the bass player).
When the White, James and Rob Pierce released the first YellowHammers LP, Suffer Fools Gladly, in 1994 they decided to play a handful of shows and asked Levin to beat the tubs. At the time he was playing with Million Yen and Pie Eyed Pete but found the time to squeeze in another act. His rock solid drumming and countertenor vocals added all the color his mates could ask for and eventually he joined the group full time.
